Yttria (Y2O3) is the most thermodynamically stable oxide and resistant to many reactive metal melts such as titanium. In addition to its use in the refractory sector, it is used as a sintering aid and for the stabilization of zirconium oxide.

YAG has excellent creep resistance at high temperatures, oxidation resistance, high thermal conductivity and good heat stability. The creep rate of YAG is 2.5 x 10 -9 / s at 1700 ° C and 100 MPa, which is 1/10 of the creep rate of monocrystalline Al 2 O 3 under similar conditions. For this reason, yttrium-aluminum-garnet powder is often used for the production of high temperature composites.
